Mexican Missions: Orphanage

Bethel Casa-Hogar A. C. Orphanage in Valle Hermoso, Tamaulipas

We had the pleasure of visiting this orphanage in Mexico during my vacation in August.  Brother Jim and Liza Jones have been working with this orphanage for

a while and they were kind enough to take time out of their schedule to take us to visit them.  They continually give out of their time and money to help out as best as they can.  It is a great pleasure to meet people like them.  As soon as we met them we could tell they were Christians by their love.

This orphanage is run strictly by donations.  None of the workers there get paid anything, just room and board.  Each worker has their own individual responsibilities they do.  For example, washing clothes, cooking, cleaning, etc.  They are dedicated Christians in what they do and by looking at the pictures you can see their love for children.

They have approximately forty-eight children that they take care of.  We were a little disappointed in that most of the children had gone to stay with a relative or family member because of a requirement by the Mexican Government that the children have to visit a family member if at all possible once a month.  Most of these children come from mothers and fathers that are drug addicts, alcoholics, prostitutes, deceased, etc.

At this orphanage they are taught the Word of God.  Because of this, since most of Mexico is Catholic, they are being discriminated by the Government.  For example, they had church services at the orphanage.  Then the government said they could no longer have service in the orphanage.  So now they have to go out of the orphanage to a different location to have church services.  It is a sad situation.  They need a lot of prayer.

Here we have just arrived and are talking to some of the children.

This is their dining area.

This is the kitchen area.  Imagine trying to cook for 48 kids in this kitchen plus adults.

We brought some balloons for the children.

They saw us blowing up the balloons and they were so excited about them that they did not even give us a change to make animals with them.

While we were there, a van from Webster Texas arrived with some food for the kids.  It was a great blessing since their shelves were almost bare.

They had several coolers full of food.  They even brought ice cream for the kids.

The ice cream was a wonderful treat for the kids and adults, also.

Talk about having a good time with balloons and a little ice cream.

Even the American adults got into the act.

Helping out blowing up the balloons.

Sharing ice cream.

Getting a hug from one of the kids. This child is deaf and mute, but is a fast learner and radiates God’s love.

Enjoying the balloons.

Hamming it up.

Trying to blow up their own balloons.

Food brought in from Webster Texas.  It may seem small to us, but it was a great miracle for them.

More food brought in from Webster Texas.

When the Lord provides, he provides in abundance.

More food.  The Lord does great miracles.

Blowing up a balloon.

Enjoying themselves with the simple things in life.

Being friends.

 Sharing some love.

Posing for the camera.

Being friendly.

Getting attached to the children.

Some of the workers with the kids.

Getting ready to pray and say our good-byes.
