FIRM FOUNDATIONS
(Galatians 1:1-5) Paul, an
apostle - sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the Father,
who raised Him from the dead - and all the brothers with me, To the churches in
Galatia: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ,
who gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according
to the will of our God and Father, to whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.
1. The
Father’s Work
A. He authored a plan to rescue us
through His Son’s death.
(4) [Jesus] gave Himself
for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age, according to the will
of our God and Father.
B. He raised Jesus from the dead.
C. He gives us grace and peace.
(3) Grace
and peace to you from God our Father…
2. The
Savior’s Work
A. He gave Himself for our sins
B. He came back from the dead.
C. He offers to rescue us from this
evil age.
(4)
[Jesus] gave Himself for our sins to rescue us from the present evil age.
3. The
Apostles’ Work
(1) Paul,
an apostle – sent not from men nor by man, but by Jesus Christ and God the
Father…
A. They are the spokespersons of Jesus
Himself to us.
(John 16:12-14) I have much more to
say to you, more than you can now bear. But when He, the Spirit of truth,
comes, He will guide you into all truth. He will not speak on His own;
He will speak only what He hears, and He will tell you what is yet to
come. He will bring glory to Me by taking from what is mine and making it known to you.
(John
17:20) My prayer is not for
them alone. I pray also for those who
will believe in Me through their message.
B. Their writings (Scripture) are the
foundation upon which we build our lives.
(Ephesians 2:19-20) You are no longer
foreigners and aliens, but fellow citizens with God’s people and members of
God’s household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets,
with Christ Jesus Himself as the chief cornerstone.
