Jesus’ Three
Commandments
#3 - LOVE US
Jesus
commands us to love each other.
(John 13:34-35) “A new command I
give you: Love one another. As I have loved You, so
you must love one another. But this all men will know that you are My disciples, if you love one another.”
1. Join the Crowd
(Hebrews 10:24) Let us consider how we may spur one another on. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another.
A. There’s no concept of a “Lone Ranger Christian” anywhere in the Bible.
B. If I’m not consistently involved in my local church, then “my” Christianity is not working.
2. Love the Warts
A. We ALL have faults!
(Luke 6:37) “Do not judge, and you will not be judged.”
B. Don’t notice each other’s faults.
(Luke 6:41) “Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?”
C. Jesus wants me to concentrate on my own faults.
(Colossians 3:12) Therefore, as God’s chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.”
3. Shake the Hands
A. We want to EXPRESS our love for one another.
(Galatians 2:9) James, Peter, and John, those reputed to be pillars, gave me and Barnabas the right hand of fellowship.
B. Shake hands and/or hug (as appropriate).
4. Serve the Needs
(John 13:12-17) When He had finished washing their feet, He put on His clothes and returned to His place. “Do you understand what I have done for you?” He asked them. “You call Me ‘Teacher’ and ‘Lord,’ and rightly so, for that is what I am. Now that I, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also should wash one another’s feet. I have set you an example that you should do as I have done for you. I tell you the truth, no servant is greater than his master, nor is a messenger greater than the one who sent him. Now that you know these things, you will be blessed if you do them.
We love one another by serving one another.
(John 13:35) “By THIS all men
will know that you are My disciples, if you LOVE one another.
