TEACH US TO PRAY
Jesus gave His disciples this outline around which to build
their daily time alone with God.
(Matthew 6:13) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.
PROTECTING
God wants to give us the protection we need every day.
A. God will never lead us astray.
(James 1:13) “When tempted, no one should say, ‘God is tempting me.’ For God… does [not] tempt anyone.”
B. Society will lead us astray.
2. From Harmful Situations
A. “Temptation” refers to the “trials” of life.
(James 1:2-4)
“Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many
kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops
perseverance. Perseverance must finish
its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.”
(Hebrews 12:7) “Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?” (11) “No discipline seems pleasant at the time, but painful. Later on, however, it produces a harvest of righteousness and peace for those who have been trained by it.”
B. God uses the trials of life to grow us.
C. Once we’re saved, God edits the trials of life and dismisses many of them.
3. From Harmful Attacks
A. From “the evil one” or Satan.
B. Significant that Jesus included this in His quiet time outline.
C. “Deliver us” implies that Satanic attack is a certainty.
D.
Satan attacks Christians to strike out at Jesus.
