Matthew 6:19-21

ETERNITY – For Tomorrow’s Generations

Let’s make sure our hearts are in the right place.

(Matthew 6:19-21) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”

(20 second video clip from “Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s Chest”)

(1 Timothy 6:7) “For we brought nothing into the world and we can take nothing out of it.”

(6:20) “Store up for yourselves treasures in heaven where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”

1.                  Facing My Mortality

A.    None of us are going to be here much longer.

(Job 4:19) “Houses of clay, whose foundations are in the dust, who are crushed more readily than a moth!”

(Psalm 144:4) “Man is like a breath; his days are like a fleeting shadow.”

(Ecclesiastes 2:16) “For the wise man, like the fool, will not be long remembered; in days to come both will be forgotten.  Like the fool the wise man too must die!”

(Ezekiel 8:8) “No one has power over the day of his death.”

(James 4:14) “You do not even know what will happen tomorrow.  What is your life?  You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.”

B.     It’s important to consider our own mortality as we prioritize our lives.

C.    Our turn here could be up any day.

D.    Everything invested here stays here.

2.                  Facing My Eternity

A.    Our scenery hasn’t changed yet – but it’s going to!

B.     Heaven is going to be breathtakingly beautiful!

3.                  Storing My Treasures In Heaven

(6:19-20) “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.  But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal.”
